Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Library services have historically played an essential role in providing access to information, supporting education, and fostering community development. However, the rapid advancement of technology and the rise of digital media have transformed the way information is shared and accessed. In Jimeta Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State, libraries are increasingly adopting digital media to expand their reach and improve their services. Digital platforms such as online catalog systems, e-books, and social media tools have enabled libraries to offer virtual services, promote literacy, and engage with a broader audience. This study explores the role of digital media in transforming library services in Jimeta LGA, examining how libraries are integrating digital technologies to enhance access to information and promote lifelong learning.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While the adoption of digital media in libraries offers significant opportunities for improvement, many libraries in Jimeta LGA still face challenges in fully embracing these technologies. Limited digital literacy among library staff and users, inadequate infrastructure, and resistance to change are some of the barriers hindering the successful implementation of digital media in library services. This study will assess the impact of digital media on library services in Jimeta, focusing on how these technologies have transformed library operations, user engagement, and access to information.
